Film Review: Paul Blart - Mall Cop

Paul Blart: Mall Cop: This film really has nothing good going for it at all excpet that Kevin James is too darn likeable. For a comedy there is rare moments of genuine humour, for the parts that it is a bleak look on one man's pathethic life it counter-acts with inane moments of reckless stupidity. Heck! it even turns Di...(read more) abetes into a comedy plotpoint. The odd thing is that it is hard to slam a film when the lead star successfully carries the weight of the picture on his back, and does it all with such honesty, humility and affection.
The plot is split down the middle as the first half of the flick deals with how much of a social retard he is and the second half involves some crazy building robbery a l Hans et all in Nakatomi Towers. The film is completly 100% made for family viewing, there is no vulgarity, nudity or obscenities and the comedy-violence involves scenarios such as fighting it out in a kids ball pit! I hate to say it but i enjoyed this film, well actually thats a complete lie - i enjoyed Kevin James. He is worthy of better scripts than this but without him in this at all then Paul Blart would have been a complete flop instead of a ridicously successful film - its made over $137 million dollars in the US alone. I know!!! Fucking Americans.
This is by no means a film that you should go out of your way to watch but instead if it's on and you're in a nice humour then let it play through - it'll give you exactly what you expect from it and nothing more. This would get a worse rating except for Kevin James being too gosh-darn likeable. 2 / 5
