Film Review: City Of God
City Of God: Apparently a lot of people are giving this stick for not bein a national film but what do they know! This film seriously still is an epically great show - the characters come and go rapidly and while it can sometimes be a bit confusing trying to remember who knows who and from where it definately is well worth the watch. People say that this is a gangster film done in the mtv-style of fast cuts an therefore is american influenced but how is anything in this world non influenced by something else? Look at the start of scumbag millionaire - as far as i can see its just a blatant rip from the start of this what with a gang of youths running through the slums of the city, just replace rio with mumbai an you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the two. Anywyas, i reckon that at its core this film is really a love story - much like romeo an juliet - every action and re-action can be attributed to love. Lil ze flyin of the handle because of benny, the whole knockout ned input and even the main protagonist, rocket, basically finds himself in the middle of this mayhem because of his love for the apple of his teenage eye angelica. This movie can apparently divide people down the middle but for me it's still well worth the watch, its fast delivery an constant unrelenting pace is exactly the knd of thing i enjoy in a cinematic experience - providing its done well of course - and in city of god it is. 4/5
