Schpiel: My Top 5 Films Of The Decade

Right, time for end of year list.

Here's my Top 5 Favourite Films OF The Decade.

Some of these films will not be to everyone's tastes but i repeat -they are my favourite - not the best.

5. The Devil's Rejects:

A fuckin amazin follow-up to House Of 1,000 Corpses, Rob Zombie really pulls all the stops and the end scene is to die for. I can watch this over and over again and still have the same enjoyment i did the first time i watched it. Memorable characters & dialogue makes this a deserved cult-classic and in my top 5.

4. The Barbarian Invasions:

When i watched this i knew nothing about it but what a fuckin film! One of those "jesus, i'm really glad i watched that" fantastic ensemble pieces. It should be higher up but i have ones i enjoyed more - out of the 5 though this one is the one that would probably actually make it into films of the decade list. A modern fucking masterpiece.

3.Forgetting Sarah Marshall:

Like i said, MY FAVOURITE FILMS. I can watch this again and again and in my last trip to the Dam i even watched it 4 or 5 days in a row. Everything about it is perfection from Jack MacBryer stealing every scene he's in, to the superb on-form supporting cast of Paul Rudd, Bill Hader, Jonah Hill, Russell Brand & others all doin individual stellar work, to the climatic Dracula musical - everything about this film fits perfectly in its place. Last night i even watched all the gag reels / outtakes / extended cut with cast commentary again - i love it so sooooo much and the amount of kick-ass lines is boombastic. Definitely deserves its place on here.

2. Ivans XTC:

When i saw this in the cinema it left me breathless - literally. For the whole last 20 mins i found myself completely engrossed in this update of Tolstoy's "The Death of Ivan Ilyich"- so much so that Chunk had to tell me to shut the f*ck up cos my breathin was so fucked up. Danny Huston is immense as the lead character and even now all these years after it still is as memorable in my mind as the first time i saw it. One of those "Holy f*ck i LOVE films" films. Brilliant.

And number 1, which nobody will probably agree with but anyways here goes:

Identity:

Brilliant cast, brilliant story, brilliant ending, brilliant film!!!!

Everything i ever wanted in a film this has. I wish more films could give me the feeling of awesomeness that Identity does.

When I came out from seeing this in the cinema i was in a hazy bubble cos i realised there IS other people out there who make films the way i want them to be made. I know its no Lord Of The Rings or Clint Eastwood epic but to me THIS has to be top of my list.

I loved it, i still do love it - i want more films to be like it.

It's the film you see through the car window while waiting at a red light while "your film" sits besides you at the wheel nagging away about fart jokes or Hollywood endings or the possibility of sequels - and all the while you think " I wonder what life would've been like if i'd had just taken a chance on THAT film instead??? ". And as the light turns green you realise you'll never get that chance - except YOU WILL! It's out there!!!! You're not married to your film - it's a film for fucks sake - wise the f*ck up!

I love Identity an while people will disagree with me for having it even on the list - it is a list of MY FAVOURITE FILMS and Identity proudly sits on the number 1 spot.

So there you go - so what's yours ?
